Mornings can be cold, especially for elementary and middle school children who are waiting for the bus to school. Beginning in 2016, Heritage Church began the Bus Stop Program, which provides a safe warm place for children to wait for the bus to school.
The program runs from 6:30 AM to 7:15 AM, Monday through Friday, throughout the entire school year. A team of adult volunteers supervise, support, and care for children, ensuring they get on to the bus safely. Cold cereal, milk, and juice are available for anyone who is hungry and various activities are available to help pass the time. Special mornings provide an opportunity for parents and other family members to enjoy extra time with their children.
The bus stop program is free to elementary and middle school children, although registration is required. Registration takes place the first day of school (or the first day a child begins with the program). For more information, call Esperanza Center at (309) 732-0026.
The bus stop program is only possible with the help and support of volunteers like you. All volunteers are background checked to ensure a safe, secure environment, and serve on the same day each week throughout the entire school year. For more information or to obtain an application to volunteer, call (309) 732-0044 and speak with Carolyn.
